Xero Multi-factor authentication becomes mandatory

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) will become mandatory on your Xero account between 14 June – 2 July 2021. That means at some point during this time, you’ll no longer see the ‘Not now’ button that lets you skip the MFA setup. To be sure you can log in quickly and avoid any interruption to your day, we suggest you spend five minutes setting MFA up now.

It’s simple and puts an extra bolt on the door to keep your data secure. Here are the steps to set up MFA:

  • Have your smartphone on hand and make sure you’ve downloaded Xero Verify from the Apple or Google app store, or your authentication app of choice
  • If you don’t have access to a smartphone, you can use Authy, a desktop authenticator
  • Log in to Xero and follow the instructions on the screen

Please note: users who don’t need to log in to Xero, like payroll employees and those who use the Xero portal and Ask portal, won’t need to set up MFA.
